Direct Debit or Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW)
Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) is an integrated e-file/e-pay option offered only when efiling your federal HVUT returns. Using this payment option, you may submit your payment requests for direct debit from your designated bank account directly.
It's convenient. Individual and business filers can e-file and e-pay in a single step. IRS doesn’t charge a fee to use EFW, but check with your financial institution about any fees it may charge. Making an electronic payment eliminates the need to submit a voucher. It’s safe and secure. Payment information is used only for the tax payment(s) authorized.
Upon submitting your tax return IRS will validate the options to pay your tax dues, in case of EFW your back account will be automatically debited for the due amount. This would be reflecting in your statement in 2 to 3 business days. The easiest way to make your tax payments and the most recommended option.
Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
EFTPS is a secure government web site that allows you to make a federal tax payments electronically. Every user must have a secure Internet browser with 128-bit encryption in order to access the site. To log on to the system, need pre enrollment to use this option. Your user account is authenticated with three pieces of unique information: Taxpayer Identification Number (EIN or SSN), EFTPS Personal Identification Number (PIN) and an Internet Password.
EFTPS offers you the convenience and flexibility of making your tax payments via the Internet or phone. You can initiate your tax payment from your home or office, 24/7. Businesses and Individuals can schedule payments up to 365 days in advance. Scheduled payments can be changed or cancelled up to two business days in advance of the scheduled payment date.
Debit or Credit Card
You can use a Debit or Credit Card to make your IRS Tax payments, however you'll be using this service through another service provider authorized by the IRS to use this option.
To pay your Federal Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 by credit or debit card, you can use all major cards (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa). There is no IRS fee for credit or debit card payments, but the processing companies charge a convenience fee or flat fee. If you are paying by credit card, the service providers charge a convenience fee based on the amount you are paying.
Check or Money Order
You can still schedule the IRS tax payment using a check or money order. Make the check payable to the United States Treasury and write your EIN / Business Name, Tax Form, and the tax year in the memo field. Send this along with Form 2290-V, which is a payment voucher, but don't staple or paperclip the check to the voucher. Mail it to the appropriate address for faster processing of it.
